Packaging Design for face makeup products. Whether finding the perfect component for trend-driven formulas, or elevating a traditional package, face makeup is the foundation of one’s makeup routine and the packaging has to stand out from the competition in a saturated market. With Re-Nutriv makeup for Estée Lauder, the task was to tell the story of the skin-caring and gem-filled ingredients and radiant finish. By adding diamond faceting cues from the Skincare franchise, it helped link the makeup to its luxury heritage. The Re-Nutriv Cushion Compact is a great example of sustainable luxury packaging: the case is refillable, the faceted top is attached to the mirror and can be removed to be used as a keep sake. In addition, the applicator puff is designed for a smooth and even application, with soft corners that can apply makeup in tight spaces around the eyes and nose. In other examples, you can see how the Estée Lauder makeup franchises have consistent design elements through combination of gold and navy, proprietary soft square profile, and branding elements. With NARS cosmetics, branding and soft touch finish is what makes an ordinary component become instantly recognizable.
